It is important to note that receipt of application does not mean your application has been checked for eligibility and that all components have been submitted correctly, this is the responsibility of the applicant.

Disclosure of applicant information

Council seeks to maximise openness and transparency in its decision-making process.
 
If any applicant wishes to include information in their application that they require to be maintained as confidential then this information must be clearly labelled as 'confidential' by the applicant. The applicant must provide justification for the classification of information as confidential. Council will not accept applications which have confidential applied to the whole document.
 
Council will take reasonable steps to maintain confidential information included in an application. If that information becomes the subject of a request for access under the Freedom of Information Act, the views of the applicant will be sought before Council determines whether the details are exempt under the Freedom of Information Act.
 
Please note that some of the details in the application (excluding those justified as being confidential) may be considered in a Council or Committee meeting where public are present.

Canvassing or Lobbying

Canvassing or lobbying of councillors, employees of the City of Melbourne or assessment panel members in relation to any grants and sponsorship application is prohibited during the application process.

No further consideration will be given to an application submitted by an applicant that canvasses or lobbies a councillor, City of Melbourne employee or  assessment panel member in relation to their application.

Assessment process

The City of Melbourne’s grants program involves a competitive application  process.

Once the City of Melbourne has received your application:

  • Your submitted application is kept confidential. Only the relevant City of Melbourne staff and grant assessors will have access to your application and its contents will not be disclosed to any other person. *See disclosure above regarding confidentiality. 
  • In the case of the Event Partnership Program your application will be assessed by an Internal Panel.
  • The City of Melbourne will consider the assessment panel’s funding recommendations at a council meeting. 
  • All applicants will receive a letter notifying them of the result of their application as identified in the key dates table above. 
  • The list of successful applicants will be published on the City of Melbourne’s website.

Assessment criteria

Applications are assessed against the relevant assessment criteria for each grant and sponsorship program.

The City of Melbourne receives more funding applications than it can support. Therefore, successful applications are those that best satisfy the assessment criteria.

Some assessment panels may recommend part funding. This decision is carefully considered with the view of maintaining the integrity of the proposal.

The City of Melbourne reserves the right to reject any application that does not meet the criteria. The City of Melbourne also reserves the right to request further information in considering any application.



Cultural dance performance
