Community Action on Environment grants

The 2013 Community Services grants program is available to not-for-profit organisations seeking to undertake projects in 2013. The program creates opportunities for our community to join in and enjoy city life and contribute to Melbourne’s safety, health and happiness.

Last year’s Community Services grants program allocated approximately $778,000. Details of projects funded in the past are available online

Category 3: Community Action of the Environment grants

  • Open to: local, volunteer-run community organisations
  • Grants for: community-focused activities or programs that strengthen the local community
  • Grant value: up to $10,000

Community Action on the Environment grants are awarded to organisations that help local residents make real changes with positive results for Melbourne’s environment and may include activities such as community gardening, community group action for the environment, environmental education programs, sustainable design and management.

Proposed projects must support the City of Melbourne’s environmental goals and objectives, including at least one of the following categories:

Greenhouse reduction

  • reduce energy consumption
  • increase uptake of renewable energy

Water

  • reduce water consumption
  • prevent water pollution
  • maximise water reuse
  • reduce wastewater

Waste and recycling

  • reduce waste to landfill
  • increase recycling
  • promote sustainable consumption practices
  • reduce littering and dumping of rubbish

Climate change adaptation

  • manage risk to community
  • innovative design solutions

Green spaces

  • protect and enhance biodiversity
  • increase local food production, supply and/or purchase
