Homelessness Research Project
The City of Melbourne has now released findings from all three phases of its 'Homelessness Research Project' – Council's commitment to addressing homelessness in the municipality.
Stage One
Stage One of the project aimed to build a local homelessness profile for Melbourne (both now and as projected over the next five years), provide an analysis of gaps in service as well as recommendations for development of models to meet identified needs.
Survey results found respondents believe the homeless service system is sometimes difficult to access and requested better coordination of services and more crisis accommodation.

Stage Two
Stage Two concludes that creating sustainable pathways out of homelessness requires a paradigm shift in addressing the issue and a commitment to end homelessness, not just manage it.
As such, the City of Melbourne has resolved to form a strategic alliance with the State Government and other relevant agencies to create a Supportive Housing project in Melbourne with the view to ending homelessness in our city.
