Future Melbourne is the community of Melbourne’s long-term plan for the future direction of all aspects of city life.
It envisages Melbourne to be a bold, inspirational and sustainable global city and one of the top ten most liveable and sustainable cities in the world.
Six key goals have been set to achieve this vision:
- A city for people
- A prosperous city
- An eco-city
- A knowledge city
- A creative city
- A connected city
Within these goals, Future Melbourne details over 150 ambitious targets to measure the city’s progress.
Future Melbourne was developed collaboratively via a strategy of ongoing open public engagement. In twelve months, over 15,000 individuals, businesses, organisations and community groups from across Melbourne and the world participated in this extensive consultation program.
The Future Melbourne plan was endorsed by the Council in 2008 and is a resource through which the current and future council can develop their council plans.
