What's on City of Melbourne

Docklands community infrastructure plan

The Docklands community requires the right infrastructure to best suit its diverse and growing needs. To determine what this infrastructure might be, the City of Melbourne and VicUrban jointly carried out the Docklands Community Infrastructure Planning project.

The project aimed to identify the priorities, spaces, activities and resources Docklands requires, based on existing information and consultation with the local community, businesses and service providers.

Coomes Consulting Group were engaged to consolidate current City of Melbourne and VicUrban documentation. This involved analysing demographics and projections, and talking to stakeholders. The Docklands community participated in community listening posts throughout 2007 to air their views. Coomes Consulting also spoke with service providers to gauge their interest in and commitment to providing community services in Docklands.

The final report considers current Government policy directions and best practice case studies in its recommendations.

Docklands is being developed as a connected, active living and learning environment. By involving the community and other stakeholders, the City of Melbourne and VicUrban aim to ensure that the plans for Docklands are in line with what the local community sees as its priorities.
