You can blame it on the boogie this Friday night when the 1st Friday Dance Club transforms Queensbridge Square into an outdoor disco.
Join dancers from Melbourne dance troupe 2ndToe Dance Collective for some Friday night fever as part of the City of Melbourne’s 1st Friday Dance Club.
Learn disco basics to the sounds of the seventies and work up to some freestyling moves from 6pm in Queensbridge Square.
City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the 1st Friday Dance Club is a great way to have fun, keep fit and meet new people.
“We have seen a great turn out at our 1st Friday Dance Clubs. Hundreds of Melburnian’s and visitors to the city have taken part in free Bollywood, Swing, Salsa and West African dance clubs since they began in May this year.
“Last month more than three hundred people filled Queensbridge Square for West African dancing, and I’m sure disco will be a dance style that will delight.
“There will be plenty of 2ndToe Collective dancers available to show you the moves and the dance floor will be rocking until 8pm,” said the Lord Mayor.
2ndToe Dance Collective is an innovative Melbourne dance group that provides young dancers with an opportunity to create dance works with professional artists in Melbourne.
The 1st Friday Dance Club is inspired by a similar practice that takes place in many Chinese cities and towns where citizens gather in public places to dance.
Led by community and professional dance groups, 1st Friday Dance Club features a new genre of dance each month.
