ArtPlay Inside Out (artful play)

Join us for some artful play at ArtPlay!

Inside Out is a place for imagination and collaboration. There will be all sorts of inspiring materials on hand for you to create an artwork or build a play space with your little one.

Make a sculpture together out of cushions or felt; then turn it into a cubby house. Wrap and weave using ribbon and rope. Muck about with blankets and bubbles. Listen to music and cast shadows as you play. Anything is possible!

Age: 2 to 5 years (younger siblings welcome)

Dance A Story (dance)

Beginning with a book you will explore a story's themes and lines using your body in the most playful of ways. Make shapes, and faces, free form movement and stretches, twirls and jumps all to music that everyone can enjoy.

Clouds (movement)

Soft furnishings are the world of babies as they float from arms to prams to bath to bed.  Floating a little like clouds… Getting upright can be quite difficult sometimes!

Come and move in cloudland together where everything is soft and well … slightly horizontal.  

A light and fun movement, play and exploration experience for you and your baby.

The Ball Room... in the making (theatre)

Come and play with us in The Ball Room, a theatrical space for children and their families to interact, have fun and collaborate with artists and a whole lot of BALLS!

The Ball Room utilises an ancient symbol of play, the ball, used across cultures and ages. What else could this ball be? An eyeball, an apple, the earth… What happens when you bring balls into the ballroom?

Your experience in this workshop will help shape the final production of this new interactive theatre work.

This project is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab program, where artists are supported to create new work for children and families.

Recycled Collage

In this workshop you will join artist Emma Barnes to create a colourful and sustainable collage using re-cycled materials.

Explore collage using a wood block, old stamps, maps and interesting papers to make a beautiful artwork (out of what might usually go in your re-cycling bin).

Rattle Ting Swish Plop! (music & visual arts)

Artists: Erica Rasmussen and Zakiya Kurdi

Join musician Erica Rasmussen and visual artist Zakiya Kurdi for a tactile exploration of sound and colour.

Play with a range of percussion instruments where you will respond to all sorts of sounds using movement, crayons and paint to produce spontaneous, creative visual artworks inspired by the music.

Little Big Shots: Australia's International Film Festival for Kids

ArtPlay and Little Big Shots present a selection of films for younger children (taken from the Festival in June 2015).

An inspiring, meaningful and fun-filled festival, Little Big Shots features the best in local and international children's shorts and animations.

The films screening in Little Big Shots inspire discussion of world cultures, different languages, cultural diversity, emotional intelligence and human values. Better still, we guarantee they will make kids laugh, whoop, think and create.

Dancing Me, Dancing You (dance)

Artists: Kat Worth, Suze Smith and Roland Cox

Tune in and follow all the different movements your baby has to offer as they respond to the magic of live music. Then watch as the artists’ choreograph them into an instant dance performance unfolding before you and your baby’s eyes.

Please note: This workshop includes lots of moving around, especially on the floor.
